The NASPA Civic Learning & Democratic Engagement (CLDE) Knowledge Community is rebuilding its volunteer leadership team and seeking new regional representatives. This KC supports student affairs professionals in advancing civic education, student development, and democratic engagement. UNESCO's Multisectoral Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean and CLAYSS, Latin American Center for Solidarity Service-Learning, have developed “Solidarity as the future of education. Perspectives from the Ibero-American experience of service-learning”. This publication sets a dialogue between the statements of this document with the theory and practice of solidarity service-learning in Ibero-America, to show that UNESCO's proposal of education for the future is already being implemented in many educational institutions in the region. The book is available for free download on the CLAYSS website and the presentation in English can be viewed here.
The most recent issue of Experiential Learning and Teaching in Higher Education (ELTHE) has launched, featuring a piece by Bill Heinrich and Patrick Green on the Society for Experiential Education’s 20-month design thinking project on the definitions and principles of experiential learning: Defining Experiential Education for Applications in Higher Education: A Call to Action (Note the website will ask you to register, but it is free).
The latest issue of Metropolitan Universities journal, Vol. 36 No. 1 (2025): Exploring the Role of Higher Education in Prison and Returning Citizens on Campuses and Communities, is now available. Guest editors from Marquette University invite readers to reimagine the civic purposes of higher education through powerful explorations of prison education and reentry programs. The American Sociological Association has launched a new online toolkit, How to Include Community-Engaged Scholarship in the Tenure and Promotion Process, aimed at ensuring that community-engaged sociologists are recognized and rewarded for their scholarship, and that all of those involved in the tenure and promotion review process have the guidance needed to evaluate their work.
